A Quick Gutter Installation Guide for Every Homeowner

Blog

Gutters are a vital component of your residential building. Other than protecting the roof, they prevent water from pooling around the house foundation, keeping it stronger for longer. This is the reason homeowners are encouraged to conduct gutter replacement when the old gutters become rusty and sag. However, gutter replacement can be a complex procedure, so preparations must be done to ensure the process is as smooth as possible.

When should gutter replacement be done?

Since it's essential to protect your house, the time you choose to replace the gutters matters a lot. By all means, gutters need to be replaced before the beginning of the wet season. So, before the rainy season kicks in, you should have a gutter system that will help direct the rainwater away from the foundation, preferably into a rainwater tank.

Usually, most people choose to replace gutters when they are installing a new roof, and roofers prefer doing the job during the hot season since they have fewer interruptions. Be sure to replace your gutters at this time, even if your roofing is still in excellent condition. Your roofing contractor will not only have adequate time to offer quality services but also charge less since the service demand is low.

If your area experiences a long rainy season, consider procuring copper gutters because they are more durable. But, no matter the gutter material you choose, a new gutter system will protect the integrity of your home throughout the wet season and help you conserve resources by collecting the running water into a tank. Your water bill will reduce significantly, too, since rainwater is free.

Gutter installation preparation tips

The old gutters need to be removed before new ones are installed, and this process can be complex. Special equipment and tools are required for the task, and that's why it's advisable to assign the entire project to your roofer. They will remove the damaged gutters carefully and dispose of them. Before installation, a roof inspection is done to check for damages caused by the old gutters. If any issues like mould growth and water damage are found, repairs will be done, and then the roof will be painted.

Once the repairs are completed, it's time for the experts to install another new gutter system. Consider getting a colour that matches the exterior design scheme. A contractor who recommends the use of gutter guards is reliable – gutter guards extend the gutters' life span. Finally, they will confirm if the downspouts can move water from the house efficiently.

Repairing or Replacing a Roof

Hello, welcome to my roofing blog, my name is John and I live in Alice Springs, Australia. I recently moved out here with my wife and two kids to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. We bought an old farmhouse and are in the process of renovating it. The place needs quite a bit of work. One of the biggest jobs so far has been sorting out the roof. It was missing a few tiles and I couldn't decide if we should try and repair it or if it would be better to have it repaired. Thankfully, my neighbour is something of an expert. He came and inspected the roof and recommended that we replace it. He explain how roofing works and the benefits of using different materials. I have learnt so much, I decided to start this blog.
