The Versatility of Metal Sheet Roofing

Blog

If being green and choosing eco-friendly options for your home is important to you, then metal roofing makes an excellent choice when looking for a replacement material. Many metals, including aluminium and steel, are recyclable. After a metal roof reaches the end of its lifespan, decades down the track, it can be recycled into a different object. Thus, you won't be purchasing a product that will end up in a landfill.

Another reason to consider metal roofing is that it's versatile — you can cover various buildings with this option. To learn more, read on.

Suits Different Roof Pitches

You can cover a warehouse, a residential home, an extension, a gazebo, or a shed with metal roofing. One reason for this versatility is that metal sheets can be placed on roofs of different pitches, both steep and relatively flat. If you install tiles on shallow-pitched roofs, water can get underneath and around the tiles when it rains. However, large metal sheets don't have gaps through which the rain can enter. Additionally, installing large sheets is quicker and easier than attaching hundreds of small tiles to battens. This faster process can lower the construction costs of a roof replacement.

Lightness Helps Various Buildings

Another reason that metal roots suits various structures is that it's a lightweight material. Because it's light, metal is less likely to stress a building. Terracotta and concrete tiles, on the other hand, are relatively heavy. If you're building a home extension or bungalow, for example, you'll need to ensure the walls and roof framework can carry a heavy tiled roof. As metal forms a lighter roof, you'll not have the same concerns, and builders won't need to bolster the rafters and roof beams. Metal roofing is perfect if you have a massive roof area or want to protect an old building's integrity, for example.

Design Options Match Diverse Architectures

Metal sheeting is also versatile in design, as it can cover assorted building styles and architectures. If you have a heritage home, you can install colours that suit its era and choose a classic orb wave profile to harmonize the roof with the building. Metal can also be bent and shaped to flatter contemporary homes. You'll have a choice of various corrugation profiles. Some metal roof sheets have deep angular channels that can contain heavy rainfall even on flatter pitches. Additionally, metal roofs offer a wide array of colours such as blue, grey, wheat, green, and endless other hues to match any facade's palette.

Repairing or Replacing a Roof

Hello, welcome to my roofing blog, my name is John and I live in Alice Springs, Australia. I recently moved out here with my wife and two kids to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. We bought an old farmhouse and are in the process of renovating it. The place needs quite a bit of work. One of the biggest jobs so far has been sorting out the roof. It was missing a few tiles and I couldn't decide if we should try and repair it or if it would be better to have it repaired. Thankfully, my neighbour is something of an expert. He came and inspected the roof and recommended that we replace it. He explain how roofing works and the benefits of using different materials. I have learnt so much, I decided to start this blog.
